From Preparedness to Recovery: Nurses’ Roles in Disaster Management will equip learners with knowledge of the broader dimensions of emergency preparedness. This symposium is designed for nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, nursing faculty, nursing administrators, and nursing students, offering valuable insights tailored to their roles in addressing Florida’s unique disaster challenges.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain health needs in acute and chronic disasters in each phase of disaster management.
- Assess disaster issues of children, women, men, families,
communities and their vulnerabilities. - Describe actions nurses can take to support families and
communities during acute and chronic disasters.

EVENT SPEAKER
Nancy Rudner, DrPH, APRN, FAANP
Dr. Nancy Rudner is an independent scholar and volunteer nurse practitioner, providing consultation on population health. She has focused her career on improving health through the lifespan through patient care, population health, and policy. Her work has included improving health through policy and advocacy for modernized nurse practitioner regulation, population health initiatives, disaster nursing, and international collaborations. She has provided disaster nursing care in Puerto Rico, Florida, Bahamas, and the US -Mexico border. Dr. Rudner is an active member of the Nursing Action Coalition of Florida, Florida Clinicians for Climate Action, and the Florida Nurse Practitioner Network. She is working on the Nursing Action Coalition of Florida efforts to strengthen disaster nursing preparation.
